DESCRIPTION

One Day was my game concept for my successful application to the Cologne Game Lab’s B.A. Digital Games – Game Design program in 2016.
Applicants were asked to deliver a game concept dealing with the given topic of “Empathy”.

One Day is a short game that, separated in six chapters, leads the player through an ordinary day in the life of an autistic person, experiencing their impressions and emotions throughout different scenarios.
As a serious game/empathy game it approaches anyone wanting to educate themselves about the struggles autistic people in our society have. Since it is focused on presenting the (linear) story, the main gameplay will consist of minimalistic interaction and a few mingames, making the game suitable for people with little to no gaming experience too.

CONCEPT

This concept was originally delivered in the form of a website. You can view it here.

When I created this concept, I contacted a friend of mine, who was diagnosed with autism, and asked her to help me with sources, experiences and “proof-reading” on the concept. That way, I hope I was able to depict the game’s character and encounters in an authentic way.
